Waxing 101

Bikinis, underarms, legs…and everything in between...“How should I prepare for my next wax appointment?” The answer? We got you. Whether it’s your first wax experience or you’ve been waxing for years, upkeep between and before your appointments are key to a clean, smooth, easy, wax. Here’s how...

First things first: hair must be grown out in order to be waxed! The perfect amount of growth for most wax treatments is the length of a “grain of rice” or 2-3 weeks of growth.

Certain areas like the Bikini and Brazilian may need to be trimmed prior to waxing to avoid uncomfortable tugging of any extra hair. If possible, please do this yourself before your appointment! Doing this saves so much time and gives us the opportunity to spend more time on the areas that count.

One to two days BEFORE your appointment

To get the most out of your wax, prep the area being waxed by exfoliating to remove dead skin. Harsh exfoliators can leave your skin sensitive to wax, so a rough, clean, washcloth is a great form of exfoliation, just don’t scrub too hard!

On the day of your waxing appointment

  • A fresh, clean area is an ideal area for waxing! Avoid scrubs, lotions, oils or anything else that would normally be put on the skin. These products may cause irritation and leave a film on the skin that makes wax hard to stick.

  • Come prepared with the right clothing! Wear loose and flowing clothing to prevent excess sweat, heat and friction: T-shirt dresses, skirts, sweatpants, loose shorts, tank tops.

AFTER your waxing appointment

  • Wait 48 hours before exfoliating. Lotions and oils are able to be used once your skin has calmed down, which is usually under 24 hours. Keeping the waxed area exfoliated and moisturized between appointments keeps the skin soft which helps prevent ingrown hairs, promotes softer regrowth, and acts as a prep for your next appointment.

  • Avoid heat such as hot tubs and saunas, excessive exercise, and tight clothing to give your skin a chance to breathe.
